Interview with Vinay Kolar-Aswath, Associate Director, R&D, Ambiopharm
We rely on Kromasil® chromatography media, because it gives us the best mechanical stability and batch-to-batch reproducibility, which is very critical for us.
When was Ambiopharm founded?
“Ambiopharm was founded in 2007 and has main site in North Augusta, SC and another site in Shanghai, China. Ambiopharm is a CMO / CDMO contract manufacturing organization, specializing in Synthetic Peptides, New Chemical Entities (NCE), and Generic Peptide APIs. Our clients are Universities, Biopharmaceutical companies and Generic drug manufacturers. Ambiopharm will eventually be a pharmaceutical company.”
When did you start using Kromasil® columns and bulk media?
“Almost from the inception of the company. I started in 2010, but prior management had experience with Kromasil® products, having been with other peptide manufacturers and also knowing Kromasil®’s competition.”
“Kromasil® media is used for most of our projects, and we’ve had good results with Kromasil® as compared to other competitors. The company has done comparison studies which have shown Kromasil®’s superiority. That’s why we rely on Kromasil® chromatography media, because it gives us the best mechanical stability and batch-to-batch reproducibility, which is very critical for us.”
“Kromasil® is also good, especially because of its longevity. You don’t have to replace the packing media for every single run. You can use it multiple times and that helps us immensely because lots of times we run back-to-back purification batches for the same product, and we don’t have to unpack and repack columns between batches.”
As well as using Kromasil® for bulk purifications how have Kromasil®’s pre-packed columns worked for you?
“We use Kromasil® pre-packed columns to test conditions, feasibility before scaling up to bulk quantities for manufacturing, and again we find that Kromasil® gives us the best scalability and batch-to-batch consistency.”
“Also, we have got great support when needed for various issues and find dealing with Kromasil personnel is very easy to do.”
