Kromasil offers the lowest possible total separation cost by providing the best silica-based HPLC, SMB and SFC packing material. Superior loadability and lifetime let you boost productivity and reduce costs.

Lower total cost is what counts

The packing cost is only 5-10 percent of the total cost of purification. The major part is solvent costs and the rest is costs for labor, equipment and lost crude. With packing like Kromasil, enabling say twice the loadability, you can double your production volume or halve your production costs. The premium price for Kromasil is negligible compared to what you gain.

The Kromasil paradox

Normally, a high pore volume gives a high available surface area but low mechanical strength. Not so for Kromasil. What makes Kromasil unique is the combination of high pore volume (with small pore size distribution) and high mechanical strength. Kromasil’s well-defined chemistry, with a high density of adsorption sites, ensures that the peaks remain narrow even under high loading.

Step by step: “The leverage effect”

A small investment in premium packing can generate big total cost savings. We call this “The leverage effect”. Here is how it works.

Figure - state 1: Costs that are generally involved in an industrial purification process, here with a given loadability Q₁. The packing cost is about 10% of the total purification cost.

Figure - state 2: Packing with twice the loadability: Q₂ = 2×Q₁. PCR_2/1 shows the return of the invested packing cost on the saving over the total purification cost. At twice the loadability and packing cost of 10% of your total cost, you have saved ten times the cost of your packing material.
