The packing cost is only 5-10 percent of the total cost of purification. The major part is solvent costs and the rest is costs for labor, equipment and lost crude. Normally, a high pore volume gives a high available surface area but low mechanical strength. Not so for Kromasil. Kromasil’s well-defined chemistry, with a high density of adsorption sites, ensures that the peaks remain narrow even under high loading.

Figure - state 2: Packing with twice the loadability: Q2 = 2×Q1. PCR2/1 shows the return of the invested packing cost on the saving over the total purification cost. At twice the loadability and packing cost of 10% of your total cost, you have saved ten times the cost of your packing material.
